BooK - Alchemy of Tui Shou

Yeah, I want one!: matrix@inbiworld.com
In the realm of works concerned with the Art of Tui Shou(or 'Push Hands' as many know it), this book is rare if not unique on several counts. Firstly, ather than taking a linear approach to its subject by describing in mechanical terms the method of Tui Shou, the author places each reader squarely in the middle of a path, much broader and more importantly, personally relevant. Tcherne forces us to ask the uncomfortable question - why does one practice this art at all? (Not that he poses such questions literally!) Instead, having read the text, even superficially, we find ourselves forced to question what motivates our search and the existence or otherwise of a coherency to all our practices. We find Push Hands is not in fact a method, but is a means to organize and develop an internal process. At the centre of this process are not techniques. At the centre of the process is us, with all our ideals, attitudes, ignorance and enthusiasm. Tcherne seeks not to expose our weaknesses, but by providing us for the first time with a truly insightful treatise on the hidden nature Tui Shou some must find it difficult continuing to pretend that a superficial knowledge of this art is sufficient to justify any complacency. In alluding to this Tcherne reveals ,"Daoist teaching is a kind of a screen that shields everything behind it. It is a preface before the story."
